Strada, La

Director: Federico Fellini
Year Released: 1954
Rating: 2.0

Giulietta Masina - Fellini's wife - is sold to one-trick pony/circus performer Anthony Quinn for a wad of cash. On their hobo voyage, he beats and cheats on her - Quinn's character is either angry or ragingly furious - while she bows her head and weeps. She meets and falls for (sort-of) a loud-mouthed tightrope walker who must be clairvoyant because he predicts his own death when not playing "The Fool" (his role in this 'tragedy') or giving speeches out of left field about pebbles-as-metaphors. Low-rung Fellini - or more accurately, Fellini in the process of developing his signature style - it is a surprisingly superficial work (though one that has been critically praised).
