Beethoven's Great Love

Director: Abel Gance
Year Released: 1936
Rating: 2.5

I have nothing against Abel Gance, who made have been a great film artist, but his take on the life of Beethoven is entirely too exaggerated and melodramatic to strike a meaningful chord (oooh, a pun!). The ending, in particular, is overwrought - I kept waiting for Paul Thomas Anderson's frogs to fall from the sky.
