Spider-Man: Far From Home

Director: Jon Watts
Year Released: 2019
Rating: 2.0

Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), sometime after the (alleged) passing of Tony Stark, goes on a class trip to Europe where there are elemental attacks taking place and some wannabe Avenger named Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) conveniently shows up just in time to stop the assaults.  The whole 'how to balance being a superhero and a teenager' angle that's in here was already well-established in Spider-Man: Homecoming so that's a bit played out, and the courtship of MJ (Zendaya) is normal young love sort-of stuff, so what's left is the destruction of landmarks in Venice (the Rialto) and London (Tower Bridge) just for kicks.  Gyllenhaal, normally the protagonist (or anti-hero), relishes the chance to play a baddie (like James Franco in another Spider-Man movie twelve years ago) ... and it's so ironic that Bill Haverchuck would go on to suffer the indignities of being a teacher.
