The Spy Who Fell to Earth

Director: Tom Meadmore
Year Released: 2019
Rating: 2.0

A look into the suspicious goings-on of Ashraf Marwan, a wealthy Egyptian (he was married to Gamal Nassar's daughter) who may have betrayed his own country to work with the Mossad (Israel's national intelligence department): the Egyptians and writer Dr. Ahron Bregman (who was in contact with Marwan and may have 'exposed' him) think he was a double-agent (with absolute loyalty to his homeland) but the Mossad insists he was not.  I'm a sucker for cloak and dagger stories, but Meadmore's approach is best described as fumbling and sloppy - he uses this "rewind" effect that's irritating, he doesn't go into how Marwan made his money (it was from arms dealing) - and one can easily tell this is a case where both sides, Israel and Egypt, want to 'save face' (most of the Egypt side refuses to comment), so there's a good possibility a lot of them are lying and being intentionally deceitful (yawn).  I tend to side with the retired Mossad guys who, I've heard, are scary good at this sort of trickery - with all due respect, Dr. Bregman can go pound sand.
