Venom

Director: Ruben Fleischer
Year Released: 2018
Rating: 2.5

Pesky journalist Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) looks into the strange experiments being run by unethical scientist/gazillionaire Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed), gets fired from his job for asking too many questions, and then becomes infected with evil Silly Putty to turn into the title pancreas-eater. This got pounced on by critics - who, after over-rating every other Marvel movie, felt it was a 'safe one' to knock - but I had a fun time watching it: not only does it move quickly, but Tom Hardy was built to be in the these movies, and when he has "conversations" with the (actual) parasite inside of him, it's very amusing. The ending is a little rushed and it's not the most inventive plot of all time, but Fleischer, who's mostly worked in comedy, knows a little thing about timing ... and when to wrap it up.
