The Sea Hawk

Director: Michael Curtiz
Year Released: 1940
Rating: 2.5

Errol Flynn is the leader of the Sea Hawks, a group of bandits who collect jewels for England in this standard swashbuckler; Claude Rains (always astute) and the Spaniards are sick of it. Rousing opening and closing acts, but the lengthy middle is slow moving (lots of exposition) in comparison, and the picture is overlong, desperately in need of snipping. This type of movie either works for you or it doesn't - I wanted to see The Adventures of Robin Hood again.
