On the Beach at Night Alone

Director: Hong Sang-Soo
Year Released: 2017
Rating: 2.0

Oops! Hong did it again! He makes the same films, again and again, oh baby baby. In this very, very slight deviation from all his other cranked out projects, he has actress Young-hee (Min-hee Kim) distraught over a love affair she had with a married filmmaker (again, based on Hong! how about that!) who played with her heart and got lost in the game (he's not that innocent). Scenes skip around - from Germany to Korea - and there are some peculiar moments (the window is clean, buddy) and there's very little plot to speak of ... although it is kind of relaxing in a "let's hang around and chain-smoke" kind of way (Hong's forte). But next time he has a fling with a leading lady, he should probably let her know she's only a friend and it's a casual thing (that's just so typically him).
