Thor: Ragnarok

Director: Taika Waititi
Year Released: 2017
Rating: 2.0

God - not "Lord" - of Thunder Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and his "enemy"/brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) are told their long-lost demonic sister Hela (Cate Blanchett) is out to take over their home planet of Asgard ... and, as one might figure, they should probably make an attempt to stop her from doing just that. Waititi, best known for "quirky" fare, infuses this with an 8th-grade dorky 'humor' and it doesn't come out right, throwing the tone off (Jeff Goldblum plays a caricature of himself) - there are still your big fight scenes (most memorable: Hulk v. Thor) but it still seems more dweebish than necessary. One of my favorite young actresses, Tessa Thompson, has a blast with her character, the booze-swigging Valkyrie, proving she really can do anything she feels like doing (same for Cate, although that's a given).
