Ibiza

Director: Alex Richanbach
Year Released: 2018
Rating: 2.0

Venomous boss Sarah (Michaela Watkins) sends stressed out underling Harper (Gillian Jacobs) to Barcelona to finalize a business deal, but Sarah's friends (Vanessa Bayer and Phoebe Robinson) tag along and coax her into flying to party island Ibiza (it's an hour away) to sleep with famous DJ Leo West (Richard Madden) ... which is risky because she might miss a crucial meeting. Many people would be up-in-arms nowadays if the story was in reverse (male having a one-night stand with a female) and call it 'sexist,' but if this is the start of women-pursuing-men I'm all for it - otherwise, it's fairly innocuous considering the premise (even the sex scene is very brief) and there's some cute and awkward chemistry between Jacobs and Madden that makes it just a little bit sweet: romance in the age of physical disconnect. If you're looking for solid jokes, there aren't many, but that black light gag in the hotel room had me howling.
