Indiscreet

Director:  Stanley Donen
Year Released:  1958
Rating:  1.5

Single actress Anna Kalman (Ingrid Bergman), who has basically given up on men, meets rich investor Philip Adams (Cary Grant) and they grow fond of each other ... except Philip tells her he's married (when he really isn't). Pedestrian plotting by screenwriter Norman Krasna (based on his play): the lie is used by Adams as some weird protective mechanism, but it also makes the two of them look like sleazy philanderers ... when Anna discovers the truth, she makes it look like she's with another man (bedroom shenanigans!). I'm not sure why Krasna would have grown people behaving like petty twentysomethings, but I guess it's supposed to be "cute." Just a warning: deceiving women like this, in reality, will most likely end negatively ... unless you're Cary Grant (and according to Cary Grant, not even he was Cary Grant).
