The Mummy

Director: Alex Kurtzman
Year Released: 2017
Rating: 1.0

Six screenwriters ... and this is what they come up with: a cursed sarcophagus containing wicked princess Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella) gets discovered in modern-day Iraq by treasure hunters Nick (Tom Cruise) and Chris (Jake Johnson), they try to transport it to London but the demon crashes the plane and then Nick has to stop her with a sacred dagger. In case you haven't noticed, these "reboots" are getting out of hand: this lacks the fun of the 1999 version (with Brendan Fraser) and the moodiness of the 1932 release (with Boris Karloff!), with a script that barely bothers developing any of the participants and Cruise doing his best with his "generic adventurer" character (Johnson is in there for a few chuckles). The ending feels butchered and incomplete, although that's probably just to set up 'future sequels' that will likely never come (this was a major box office flop).
