Breathe

Director: Mélanie Laurent
Year Released: 2014
Rating: 2.0

Teen Charlie (Joséphine Japy), whose parents are separated (details are vague), befriends new student Sarah (Lou de Laâge), who is extroverted ... the two become very close (ahem), but Sarah's borderline psychotic. It reminds me a bit of Jackson's Heavenly Creatures without the creative touches - Sarah never stops being a disturbing annoyance and Charlie never fully comes out of her proverbial shell until the last few (disappointing) minutes, when she resorts to murder (she's consistently a victim of circumstance). Laurent, best known for her work as an actress, takes on material (female rivalry) she knows all too well ... except the end product lacks texture.
