John Wick: Chapter 2

Director: Chad Stahelski
Year Released: 2017
Rating: 2.5

The title assassin (the ageless Keanu Reeves), still trying to retire (not happening), gets recruited by Italian mobster Santino D'Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio) to eliminate his sister Gianna D'Antonio (Claudia Gerini) ... which he reluctantly does (she slits her wrists first), but after she's dead Santino places a bounty on Wick's head (at 7 million) to cover up his scheme.  Stahelski has a flair for set design and bullet mayhem, but the bloodshed becomes exhausting after a while as Reeves' character seems to be Beyond Human (he gets hit by a car, stabbed, thrown through glass, shot repeatedly ... and keeps livin') and one quickly realizes, like a video game, there's an Immortality Cheat Code being abused.  However, I do like that it tries to further explore its own "criminal underworld" creation and the rules/procedures therein - Wick, upon arriving in Rome, is quickly asked if he's targeting the Pope ... who is hopefully off-limits....
