Memoria

Director: Vladimir de Fontenay and Nina Ljeti
Year Released: 2015
Rating: 1.0

Yet another sad, disaffected teen movie that has long-haired Palo Alto high-schooler Ivan (Sam Dillon) struggling with Daddy Issues, smoking weed, skipping class, stealing, not getting laid (boo!), attempting to kill his peers and parents and then jumping off a bridge (thaaaat's life!). It's based on the short stories from auteur/professional prankster James Franco - who also appears as a concerned English teacher - but fails to offer anything insightful into youth culture (so they like to do drugs and fight each other) and centers itself around a lead who's not only closed off from the world, but is also a scum-bag who needs to grow up. Gia Coppola already made a movie out of Franco's collection back in 2013 ... believe me when I say there isn't enough in there to warrant multiple adaptations.
