Tallulah

Director: Sian Heder
Year Released: 2016
Rating: 1.5

Vagabond Tallulah (Ellen Page), after her boyfriend Nico (Evan Jonigkeit) abandons her, goes to NYC to stay with his mother (Allison Janney) ... and in the meantime kidnaps a baby from its negligent mother (Tammy Blanchard), passing it off as her own. It might have helped this project a smidge if any of the characters were remotely pleasant in any way - Page's dirty drifter is a thief, a kidnapper and a pathological liar, Nico has commitment issues, Janney is a grouch (her attempted 'seduction' of a doorman is an ugly moment) and Blanchard is not just a drunk but a horrible parent - and Heder's use of 'magical realism' (floating/sinking people) is forced. Every last one of these people needs therapy ... and Page needs to stop lifting credit cards (and I say this because a few years ago I had my own number stolen by a woman who used it to buy cheap perfume at a Walmart in Alabama).
