The Lego Movie

Director: Phil Lord and Christopher Miller
Year Released: 2014
Rating: 2.0

"Ordinary" constructor work Emmet (voiced by Chris Pratt) is told he's "the Special" and the savior of the Lego People, so it's up to him, a deity (Morgan Freeman), a punk chick (Elizabeth Banks) and Batman (Will Arnett) to take down purely evil President Business (Will Ferrell) and his obsession with krazy gluing people together. Supremely inventive from a visual point of view, full of clever sight gags and making sure everything is properly Lego-ized (even 'smoke' and 'water' and 'fire' are plastic) though it basically comes down to being a generic message movie about harnessing one's creativity (how much or how little a person actually has) and how 'everyone' is unique: when it returns to the real world and reveals itself to also be about Dad Issues as a son rebels against his father (Ferrell, this time in human form), well, it's a hefty budget away from being a glorified PSA. Oh, and it also works as a toy ad (sing it with me!): "Everything is awesome! Everything is fun when you purchase our toys!"
