Post Tenebras Lux

Director: Carlos Reygadas
Year Released: 2012
Rating: 2.0

Loosely "autobiographical" work by Reygadas that seems to be less of a cohesive narrative and more of the filmmaker taking fragments from his imagination and pasting them together in any which way: it goes from a little girl identifying animals in a field to a red devil walking around a house to a husband/wife in some kind of sexual bathhouse orgy to a rugby match in England (and so on). Of course, this is exquisitely filmed (by Alexis Zabe), though the lack of connective tissue leaves the audience to sew together some kind of meaning, yet the only person who can properly unpack this discordant (but resplendent) mess is Reygadas himself. His films, up to this point in time, have concerned themselves with sex; this one is all masturbation.
