Warm Bodies

Director: Jonathan Levine
Year Released: 2013
Rating: 0.5

A human female (Teresa Palmer) "falls in love with" a zombie (Nicholas Hoult) after he eats her boyfriend's head and absorbs his memories - as it turns out, zombie-ism can be "cured" by the power of love (who knew they just needed a little affection) and before you know it, humans and zombies are joining forces to abolish skeleton-like super-zombies. The whole Zombie Genre, so prevalent over the past couple of years, has become hopelessly stale and little ingenuity is being injected into the formula: it reached its peak with the subtext-heavy Romero pictures and fell down considerably thereafter. Aside from the ridiculousness of the plot, little works: Hoult's character can do little more than grunt and break up words into syllables and Palmer's "affection" for Hoult - after he killed her boyfriend - is utterly perverse. The promotional material for the movie (particularly the bit with Rob Corddry going "method") is considerably more entertaining than the movie itself.
