The Three Stooges

Director: Bobby and Peter Farrelly
Year Released: 2012
Rating: 2.0

Cute novelty has the mentally-deficient trio (Sean Hayes, Will Sasso and Chris Diamantopoulos) out in the 'real world' where they need to raise money to save their orphanage. Basically homage to the original, it even lifts sound effects (lots of bonks and clanks) and is laid out as if it were three consecutive thirty-minute episodes; Stooge "purists" might not take to it, and you could argue the Tom & Jerry-esque violent physical comedy isn't exactly funny in today's culture, but the Three Stooges were never exactly the pinnacle of art (nor were they ever supposed to be). What I found personally amusing was the casting choices: all three of the Stooges are fantastic (and it took me a few minutes to figure out it was Hayes as Larry) and many of the side figures, particularly Larry David, Jane Lynch and Sofia Vergara (who is both luscious and great at comedy - just watch her in Modern Family) make it consistently watchable. This is too intentionally stupid to truly despise.
