Man Is Not a Bird

Director: DuĊĦan Makavejev
Year Released: 1965
Rating: 0.5

And this is not a movie. One of Makavejev's lesser efforts centers around a fragile relationship between an engineer and a younger, promiscuous woman - it's probably intended to be a metaphor for living and working in a Communist country, though metaphors alone don't make up for an absence of plot, character development, etc. I think this is a case of a unique cinematic talent not finding his 'voice' yet - Makavejev's gift has always been in the absurd and surreal; this appears to be him trying to keep himself under control (aside from a few slightly odd snippets, including a dance scene at the end).
