21 Jump Street

Director: Phil Lord and Christopher Miller
Year Released: 2012
Rating: 1.5

The noble bumbling duo of Chubby (Jonah Hill) and Strong (Channing Tatum) get tapped by their police chief (Ice Cube) to infiltrate a drug ring in an area high school, and expectedly, all things go to hell. These attempted modernizations of classic TV shows are generally lousy, and this one is no exception, with a few humorous moments scattered among the failed physical comedy. It's not that Hill and Tatum are a bad two-some - they actually work fairly well together - it's just that this lacks pop and sizzle. Brie Larson is cute as Hill's teenage love interest; Johnny Depp shows up ... and gets shot.
