Tabloid

Director: Errol Morris
Year Released: 2010
Rating: 3.0

Morris takes on another wild eccentric, former Miss Wyoming Joyce McKinney, whose obsession with Mormon Kirk Anderson led her to chase after him when he went to England for his church, 'kidnap' him, chain him to a bed and 'force' him to have sex with her ... which caused the English tabloids (and public) to explode with delight (it helps, I think, that it was an American woman from the Midwest engaging in loony behavior). Doesn't leave much of a lingering effect in the mind the way some of the better pictures Morris made seem to - "Bitches be crazy," to quote a friend - but is an interesting peek at the art of deception: McKinney, shifty and crafty (with that "super high" IQ of hers), even admits "it isn't a lie if you believe it," and where the Truth Lies in this maelstrom of personal narratives and odd occurrences may never be really known (the fact that Anderson has remained quiet over the years leaves out his half of the argument). McKinney tries very hard to pull off the act of being a sweet-natured romantic, but make no mistake: she's a shameless attention whore.
