Attack the Block

Director: Joe Cornish
Year Released: 2011
Rating: 2.5

Tough talking hood kids have their mettle tested when fuzzy aliens with glowing fangs crash land in their neighborhood - without guns, they have to use their street smarts to fend off the foes. If you can curb your thinking you can have a bit of fun with this one: Cornish shows no pity towards the kids (and has no problems with dispatching them) and the action is balanced with some good ol' foul-mouthed slang (making comparisons to The Goonies inevitable). There's a minor point in there about taking responsibility for your own misdeeds and standing up for your own, and I really like how many of the young characters have to keep their parents placated ("But Mum!...").
