The Raven

Director: Lew Landers
Year Released: 1935
Rating: 3.0

A supremely crazy physician (Bela Lugosi) saves the life of a young woman and falls in love with her, but her father nixes the union, so the Mad Doctor enlists the aid of butchered henchman Bateman (Boris Karloff) to help him "win" her back through nefarious means. Though it isn't "faithful" to Poe's famous poem, it does incorporate it and several of Poe's other works - The Pit and the Pendulum has a special place here - into the story quite well. Unlike the 1934 "adaptation" of Poe's The Black Cat, I found this picture to be intense and fun, a celebration of Poe's oeuvre.
