The Toolbox Murders

Director: Dennis Donnelly
Year Released: 1978
Rating: 1.5

Some loon with a smorgasbord of tools is killing (supposedly promiscuous) women and kidnaps a young lady to replace his long lost daughter - the police are baffled, but two teenagers are on the case, so everyone can stay calm. The gore and nudity stop after about twenty minutes, and after that director Donnelly turns it into a chat fest: apparently Our Killer has religious hang-ups and wants to wipe out those wonderful sluts, even though the Bible clearly states that murder isn't the best idea (then again, it also says masturbation is bad, so you can take its advice with a pillar of salt). It's been accused of being misogynistic - a common criticism of so, so many horror movies where it's Men Attacking Women - but that ending sure does suggest some kind of empowerment, now doesn't it?
