Let Me In

Director: Matt Reeves
Year Released: 2010
Rating: 2.0

Disappointing remake of the sleeper Swedish film about a young outsider (Kodi Smit-McPhee) who forms a bond with a vampire (Chloe Moretz) and how the two run off into eternity together. Like the (superior) Tomas Alfredson version, it kind of fumbles with the gender/sexual issues (the Moretz character is a eunuch), but it also loses considerable magic and wonder in the translation, and it seems like this one's trying for gore and scares while the original was more interested in mood and character. Moretz and Smit-McPhee don't have the chemistry or charming naivety of Kåre Hedebrant and Lina Leandersson.
