War profiteer Nicolas Cage sells arms to despots in other parts of the world for the first half of the movie, evading Interpol (who have fighter jets and employ the likes of Ethan Hawke) and taking time to win over Bridget Moynahan, setting up the second half where Niccol gets to editorialize and show children with guns and teenagers getting shot with guns and so on. The first five minutes are amazing - showing the path from the manufacturing of a bullet to it being lodged in someone's brain - as are the last ten minutes, which at least never veers from the nastiness and allows Cage's mongrel to escape from harm, but the movie's mostly a cartoon crafted to raise your liberal ire.
