Boondock Saints

Director: Troy Duffy
Year Released: 1999
Rating: 0.0

After seeing this truly awful, proto-Fascist film by Duffy, I cannot fathom what Harvey Weinstein originally saw in the screenplay to give him so much money and power for it. It doesn't have the pop-explosion of Tarantino's films nor much comedic sensibility - when the title killers say a prayer before killing mobsters or kiss the feet of a statue of Jesus in the beginning of the movie, he can't possibly be serious - and most of the women in the film (there aren't many) are either whores, junkies or both. It's also - and I'm not sure if Duffy realizes it - the most homophobic/homoerotic film I've seen in who knows how long (it's not just Willem Dafoe's flamboyant character, but how Duffy films the 'closeness' of the brothers as well). I feel quite safe calling this movie absolutely and unquestionably worthless.
