Sword of Doom

Director: Kihachi Okamoto
Year Released: 1966
Rating: 1.0

Crazed, 'evil' samurai roams through the cities, massacring people at will; meanwhile, if you thought rap videos treated women poorly, you should see the way the dames in this movie are man-handled. Obviously indebted to the films of Akira Kurosawa, but without the degree of technique: the long stretches of dialogue and blocky staging are massive distractions and take away the power of the cinematography and sparse action sequences. The ending is also quite inconclusive, veering towards abstraction rather than resolution.
