Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

Director: Kerry Conran
Year Released: 2004
Rating: 0.0

Laughable 'action' movie about invading robots, Asian robots and a single Spitfire that can take them all down - the much-touted 'visual effects' consist of running the blue-screen footage through every filter in Adobe After Effects (even a cheap digital camera I 'own,' the Canon ZR-10, has a "Sepia" tint function). Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow try not to look embarrassed - whereas Angelina Jolie enjoys her own awful British accent - and I didn't walk away thinking it particularly 'creative,' considering the time and effort: it's sort-of like a Guy Maddin film shot without the countless antique cameras or sense of abandon. Yes, the 'resurrection' of Sir Laurence Olivier is offensive to me.
