8mm

Director: Joel Schumacher
Year Released: 1999
Rating: 0.5

This Nicolas Cage vehicle is overlong, dull and blatantly obvious look at the evils of pornography and the 'devilish' people who make it. Cage, a private detective, gets presented with an 8mm film reel of some girl being murdered and then goes on a journey into the seedier parts of New York's underworld to find out whether or not what was shown was "real" (a 'snuff' film) or simply fake. Cage's acting is nothing but pained grimaces and flinches, dramatic pauses and a monotone delivery. Apparently director Joel Schumacher and writer Andrew Kevin Walker think that people who make these types of films act like rejects out of some Dario Argento film.
