The Bourne Supremacy

Director: Paul Greengrass
Year Released: 2004
Rating: 1.0

Very weak follow-up to the dark The Bourne Identity has the same premise - former assassin Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) is on the run from killers, the CIA and shady-types - but is seriously hampered by Greengrass' preference for shaky hand-held camera work and pressed-against-the-face close-ups which attempts to impress by 'juicing up' the action scenes but only makes things a blurry, barely recognizable mess. What's equally exasperating is the plot's devolving into Tom Clancy category, complete with double agents and more Russian bad guys. Like it or not, Matt Damon is absolutely believable as the brilliant title spy - the man's a movie star - and it's always good to see Joan Allen doing ... well, anything.
