Bagdad Café

Director: Percy Adlon
Year Released: 1988
Rating: 2.0

A German woman wandering around Nevada stumbles upon a diner/hotel that she decides to stay at - naturally, her being a 'foreigner' in the eyes of the owner (CCH Pounder) doesn't help their potential bonding, but eventually emotional walls get torn down and they're one big happy family. Self-consciously 'arty' and meandering, it doesn't really pick up until the last half-hour when the German woman starts a magic show that brings business to the café - before that, Pounder is in a state of perpetual anger and the film staggers around vacuously with little on its mind.
