Assault on Precinct 13

Director:  John Carpenter
Year Released:  1976
Rating:  2.5

The killing of a group of prisoners triggers a group of primal psychos to unleash an attack on an abandoned police station in this low budget action piece, the second feature film made by John Carpenter. There are some tense moments as the police officers, two secretaries and two criminals protect the station, but that's amidst the distracting B-movie acting and horrible dialogue (not to mention some gaps in the script). Carpenter acknowledges Rio Bravo as one of his inspirations, but to me the scenario bears close resemblance to Romero's Night of the Living Dead, with the nameless, faceless attackers attacking in droves and willing to sacrifice themselves to take down the 'good guys.'
